Dutch retailer and fashion designer Nelleke Strijkers won two awards for her label SPR+ during the World Apparel Convention from the International Apparel Federation (IAF) in Porto, Portugal. She won the award for Most commercial design and Best material use. The German brand Blaenk from designer duo Nadine Möllenkamp and Silke Geib took home the award for Most creative design.
The jury was formed by Mariette Hoitink from HTNK Fashion Recruitment & Consultancy, Dolores Gouveia from Modatex Fashion School and designer Júlio Torcato. The criteria for the award were innovation, originality, creativity, fabrics and the quality of the collection based on creativity vs. commercial use.
Strijkers is owner of the Amsterdam based fashion concept store SPRMRKT. Ever since I studied Fashion Styling at the academy it has been my overall favourite store! In an inspiring interior, which was once a supermarket, she sells her own brand SPR+ alongside top brands Rick Owens, Maison Martin Margiela and Helmut Lang. But also less known designer labels, accessories, music and fashion & art books. I had to stop by the store every week and when I couldn't afford to buy anything, I could afford to feast my eyes and listen to some fine new music.
Last year Time Out magazine awarded SPRMRKT Best Amsterdam fashion store. The store also got nominated for the Superstore Award by online platform Farfetch. Her label SPR+ is also sold at Maxfield LA, L’Eclaireur Paris and Antonioli in Milan.
